Winter 2010

Welcome!
Up here in far far northern California where Lani and I live we have distinct seasons and winter can mean rain, fog and snow. As the winter card from the Wisdom of the Crone Deck says, this is a time for hibernation (a cup of tea, a favorite book or time in the long evenings to study and create.) Our dreams for Spring and beyond slumber just under the surface of our beings like the seeds underground. Perhaps, this is the time to take a look at our shadow sides, those places in us that need healing and change. When we look at ourselves on all levels, mentally, spiritually, emotionally and physically, we can discover where in-balances exist. Are we in our heads too much of the time? Have we let our bodies go? Our we dealing with old repetitive emotional baggage? Have we remembered to feed ourselves spiritually by bringing what inspires us into our daily life and practice? Are we grateful for our blessings? And how can we serve other less fortunate.

As Elders we have energy and time to share even if it is only for an hour a week. There are so many of us (elders) on the planet that our generosity and caring could truly change it.

We recommend a wonderful book by Andrew Harvey (www.andrewharvey.net) entitled, The Hope, a guide to Sacred Activism. He says "To truly be of service, you must never judge what life asks you to do, rather, see the Sacred in all things and in the smallest detail of your life". That too is an act of profound activism. As Carolyn Myss who wrote the forward to the book states, " When Andrew told me that he had decided upon the title "The Hope", I secretly breathed a sigh of relief, I felt that if he could have hope after years of acquiring research with topics such as the Eco-crisis and the every-present threat of nuclear terrorism ten truly there was hope for all of us!

Remember, changing the world starts with ourselves, it spirals outward as we reach out to others. For we are all teachers rich in wisdom and experience.

Another inspiring read, "Spontaneous Evolution: Our Positive Future and A Way to there from here." by Bruce H. Lipton and Steve Bhaerman (also know as Swami Beyondamanda) brings us peace and hope with their theory that ”a world in crisis is a world of opportunities." check out their websites, www.brucelipton.com and www.wakeuplaughing.com. Lani and I have saying "Evolution before Revolution!" and his book has any positive examples of how it can happen. As we are bombarded by negative news and feelings of despair, remember to keep yourself inspired and yes the world is beautiful and terrible in the same breath but it is a choice which to surround ourselves with.

Finally on the purely physical level a nice way to care of our dry scaly, lizard-like skin...

Winter Bath Soak
Add few drops of lavender oil an olive oil to warm bath water. The scent will relax and energize and the olive oil will soothe and moisten. Pat dry with a fluffy towel, so oils can be absorbed.

Winter Magical Cleansing Bath
In a muslin bag (a clean old sock will work as well) combine 3 parts pine needles, 2 parts bay leaves and 1 part rosemary. Tie the sock or bag and put under running warm water or float it. Bathe in this blend during winter months to refresh and revitalize your magical energies. (this is one of Scott Cunningham's great recipes!)

We wish you peace and love in this most exciting year ahead of us. Remember this website is a forum for you to express your views, feelings and inspirations. So email us at info@wisewomenink.com.

Relief For Haiti
After the devastating earthquake in Haiti on January 12th 2010, the incredible outpour of love and support from our country has left me in awe. Watching the Hope for Haiti Now telethon I was moved instantly to donate. Before the program started, I had asked my son who is 25 and developmentally disabled, if he knew about what had happened in Haiti, he had not. I explained to him that it was important to watch the telethon tonight, despite the fact that many tragic things happenened and will happen in our lives he needed to see that people are working day and night to help others in need. The next morning he came over to the house walked in and handed me his recent paycheck for $57.21 and asked that I sent it off to help those in need in Haiti. There was no hesitation, no second thoughts, “Just send this Mom.” I am so proud of my son and the thousands of Americans who have donated to the Haiti Relief and who are there right now, helping to heal and rebuild Haiti.
